Solcat S2
Solcat S2 is specifically formulated for marine and civil applications. It allows fast UV curing of common ester-based resins. Productivity and throughput improvements over MEKP make the technology ideal for high production environments where speed and volume is required. Although the sun can be used to facilitate curing, development of an artificial UV light curing system is recommended to ensure uniformity. UV light curing systems are easy to build and use UV-A lights such as Mercury Vapour Lamps (recommend for high volume civil applications).
Solcat S2 offers all the advantages of UV curing technology and more:
- Increased productivity; rapid cure allows shorter demold times
- Strong secondary bonding allows parts to be built up quickly (see our attached technical data sheet)
- Curing process is temperature independent
- Non-yellowing - laminate retains original resin colour
- More environmentally friendly with less styrene emissions
- Able to be used in vacuum forming operations to give high quality finishes
Using Solcat S2 is easy - simply add it to your ester-based resin in place of MEKP. Once dissolved your ready to cure by placing your component in either the sun or under a UV light. Within minutes (depending on thickness) your component will be cured ready for demolding and subsequent operations. In comparison to using MEKP, Solcat S2 results in enhanced component properties as detailed in our technical data sheet.
Solcat S2 has been engineered to effectively cure neat resin up to 8mm in thickness. Addition of glass may decrease the cure depth somewhat. Soltek is able to engineer additional Solcat S variants to cure your desired thickness and application.
